On 31st January, 1915 the 2nd Rifle Brigade battalion of 25 Brigade, 8th Division moved into the front line at Fauquissart near Laventie in France. On 3rd February, the day on which William Cooke was killed, the enemy shelled the centre of the battalion’s lines at 10am and at 1pm they shelled the parapet and the area to the rear of battalion HQ. At 5pm 2nd Rifle Brigade were relieved and moved back to billets at Laventie. |
